SO KOKO | Song of the Week | Yemi Alade - I Want You

As we wrap up Summer Sixteen, this week's Song of The Week sums up the perfect summer vibe.
Glad we all liked last week's choice. Switching things up,  this week's song is from Mama Africa Yemi Alade with 'I Want You ' produced by Maleek Berry.

Released in the peak of summer, can we line up all the DJs in the UK of an afrobeat/afropop genre, and ask how many of you played this? Because we only stumbled on it by chance on Soundcloud (smh).

This song is borderless, it's versatility means it can fit anywhere. From Calvin Harris fans to the razziest summer roof top party, Yemi Alade (Johnny) and Maleek Berry (Kontrol) worked to ensure this song collates all of our summer experiences- and that's not an easy thing to do but it paid off.

So why did the UK get robbed of a perfectly good summer anthem? Too busy dabbing? or still looking for Johnny?

But you can still enjoy this cool track. Think music festivals like Glastonbury, the hands waving in the air, people jumping up and down in slow motion and then things speed up or a Boohoo advert even Carnival. What ever picture of summer you want to keep in your mind as we enter Autumn - Marbella, Ibiza, Cancun or that one family BBQ - this song can fit any image, fusing FDM and Caribbean sounds without losing that touch of Africa.

Yemi Alade arrived in the UK as brand ambassador for African Fashion Week and just announced her World Tour.
