SO KOKO | Style Corner | Onalaja

This weeks Style Corner is Onalaja.

Onalaja is a contemporary womenswear brand founded by designer Kanyinsola Onalaja.  The brand aims to bridge the gap between Kanyinsola’s Nigerian heritage and flair for artisan crafts, Italian design aesthetics with the formality of the British tribalism and traditions.

The focus is on perfect execution, craftsmanship and the imaginative concept of luxury and culture. Pieces are designed for the modern woman who represents the new ideal, where the woman is her entity, a strong representation of freedom, change and modernity

Onalaja experiment with fabrics, manipulation, textiles and colour to create a refined yet creatively experimental piece, that is often unconventional but wearable.

Designer Kanyinsola Onalaja was born in Nigeria and educated in London, where she studied BA Fashion Design at Istituto Marangoni. Onalaja developed her 3D Pattern Cutting at Academia di Costume E Moda, Rome. During this time she also worked with brands such as Christopher Kane.

Growing up in Nigeria, Onalaja discovered traditional art and became fascinated with the different media used to express it. Her love for colour and textiles grew, leading her to experiment with different mediums and ways to create works of art that used fashion as a means to showcase it.
